Teaching Objectives

The Civil Engineering programme is designed to educate technical professionals who have a solid foundation, all-round professional knowledge and a good command of design, construction and management of building engineering. Special emphasis is put on innovation, project management, team work and practical capabilities in addition to training of foundation knowledge. The Civil Engineering programme provides graduates with a strong foundation for a career in engineering, together with plan, design, research, construction, and management skills which may be applied in a wide variety of industries. 

Main Courses

Advanced Math, Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, Building materials, Material Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering, Concrete Structure, Steel Structure, and Architecture Construction, Elementary Chinese, Survey of China, Intermediate Chinese.

Research

The school has 6 laboratories: Structural and Seismic Engineering Lab, Wind Tunnel and Wave Flume Joint Lab, Geotechnical and Underground Engineering Lab, Structural Intelligent Monitoring Lab, Structural Blasting and  Protection Lab and low temperature in Civil Engineering Lab. In addition, the school has a High Performance Computing center.

Advantages of school

HIT is one of the first national "Project 211”universities, and is one of China's top nine "Project 985" universities to receive preferential support to achieve the standard of international excellence. The civil engineering discipline in SCE is ranked top 2 in China.The total number of the faculty in the school is 109, including 39 professors and 43 associate professors, among which there are 4 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), who have made outstanding achievements in areas of engineering mechanics, large-span space structures, earthquake engineering, wind engineering, structural vibration control, and structural health monitoring. Many distinguished scholars including 1 National Teaching Master, 2 Changjiang Scholar Professors, and other 34 doctoral supervisors are gathered here. Moreover, there are 16 adjunct professors and doctoral supervisors from overseas well-known universities.
